Having previous experience reviewing the Tokina 20mm f/2 FiRIN FE AF and MF Sony-mount lenses, I was looking forward to test-driving the new Tokina opera 16-28mm f/2.8 FF, which follows

On this month’s Gear Podcast, we take a look at wide-aperture, wide-angle lenses. With our guest, Neil Gershman, a lens expert from the B&H SuperStore, we touch upon the history of wide-angle lenses, their design and general applications, and then we discuss some pros and cons of wide-angle lenses with maximum apertures wider than f/2. I have long championed smaller, lighter lenses. If I can find a high-performing compact lens that’s sharp and renders natural-looking out-of-focus specular highlights (good bokeh), I’m interested even if it only has a maximum aperture of f/3.5 or f/4.5. And if I can find a sharp, compact lens with image quality that equals comparable lenses costing two, three, or four times the price, sign me up!

They cost way more than a jar full of pocket change, but figuratively speaking, premium 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses are a dime a dozen these days. Standard issue among street, wedding, corporate, architectural, sports, editorial, fashion and beauty photographers, fast 24-70mm resonate with just about every serious shooter out there.
The folk at Tamron wanted to join the party but, rather than being the last ones to pull up to the curb, Tamron’s optical engineers decided to design a comparably fast, f/2.8 maximum aperture lens with a focal range a

Getting excited about a lens with a 10mm zoom range might sound odd, but when the lens in question is the new Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art lens, the excitement is understandable. Available for Canon EF,
Since the days when the view camera declined in popularity and the 35mm camera came to the fore, photographers have been plagued by the distortion phenomenon known as “keystoning.” Keystoning occurs when vertical lines converge as the camera and lens are tilted above or below the horizontal plane. Today, digital images can magically generate geometric corrections with post-processing software, like Photoshop and Lightroom,
Less than a year after releasing the action-oriented a9, Sony has followed up with a resolution powerhouse in the a7R III camera. As heir to the wildly popular a7R II, the new camera is aimed at still shooters

While strolling through Midtown Manhattan with my family over the weekend, we stopped for a few minutes at the courtyard of the Stephen A. Schwarzman building, the main branch of the New York Public Library. It was one of those moments during the golden hour in which the light was hitting the architecture just right, and I’d wished I’d had my camera with me. This library never stood out to me as a prime subject to photograph, but now I’d seen it in a new light (pun intended). So, on Monday, when I was asked to review the new
