One week in Europe. One bag to pack. One camera to bring. Nikon’s first full-frame mirrorless. A lot of ones and firsts leading up to my trip to Europe this past week but, like any other trip, I was caught debating which camera to bring, up until the last minute. Luckily for me, coinciding perfectly with my departure, we received a Nikon Z 7 for review two days before I was set to leave for England and Germany. I’d been eyeing this camera since its announcement last fall and, on paper and in my mind, it seemed like the perfect camera for

Leica has a knack for making cameras that aren’t for everybody, but that everybody wants. The M10-D is a prime example of this—it is one of the most technically hamstrung cameras available today, but still, by far, one of the most alluring. It’s a controversial camera, receiving either the highest praise from those who “get it” or total disregard from those who favor the many more versatile options out there. Regardless of your

In the world of APS-C format cameras, the pickings are slim if you’re looking for a wide-angle zoom with a fixed maximum aperture of f/2.8. If you own an APS-C format DSLR with a Pentax K-mount, you’re one of the lucky ones, because based on my experience with the Pentax HD DA* 11-18mm f/2.8 ED DC AW—this lens is the pick of the litter.

Days after borrowing a Fujifilm GFX 50R with a Fujifilm GF 23mm f/4 R LM WR wide-angle lens from our Fujifilm rep, I was asked to review Fujifilm’s new Fujifilm GF 100-200mm f5.6 R LM OIS WR zoom lens. Who was I to argue?

Imagine changing your photography instantly. Like many photographers, I am always on a quest for optical sharpness, and only B&H Photo and a few local camera stores know how much this quest has cost me over the past 30-some years. When handed an optic like the new Lensbaby Edge 35, my first reaction is, “What in the world will I photograph with this lens?” It is well outside my photographic wheelhouse. But, once you strap the Edge 35 onto

Along with camera bags, camera straps are among the few photography accessories that enable you to make a personal statement. Cameras and lenses are impersonal—scuff marks and scratches aside, your cameras and lenses look like pretty much everybody else’s cameras and lenses. Camera straps are different because they set you apart from everybody else strutting about with a camera slung around their respective necks. Most of us have preferences when it comes to accessorizing our cameras. Some folk prefer narrow straps, others wider straps. Some

The Mamiya 7 II is the best camera ever made. At least I think so, and I know I’m not the only one who thinks this. It is the perfect mixture of form and function; uniquely precise and casual at the same time. Its system contains some of the finest lenses available during the film era, many of which are still likely optically superior to lenses being developed today. It is a 6 x 7 format film camera—dubbed “the ideal format,” by Mamiya—and this aspect ratio is by far my favorite due to its not-too-long, not-too-squat shape. And, of course, the

Even the best cameras in the world need batteries, same as your laptop, smartphone, tablet, monitor, and, I’m assuming, a ton of your photo accessories. When you are at home or in the studio, it isn’t much of an issue. You just plug everything into the wall outlet to charge or stay powered up. When you travel out on location, those outlets can’t exactly travel with you. That is what makes the Tether Tools
