Leica has been a prestigious brand for decades. That prestige brought high price tags and eminently covetable gear. This is why last year’s launch of the CL Mirrorless Camera was such an important release for this company, and one that should be very appealing to a wider range of photographers. The CL has a relatively affordable price, much like its film-shooting ancestor of the same name, while it's still compact, powerful, and

Sigma’s latest announcement included three distinct lenses and, likely, the most highly anticipated of the three is the 35mm f/1.2 DG DN Art. This lens was clearly designed to be a showstopper, with its huge f/1.2 maximum aperture and equally huge physical size. But is the lens more than just a one-trick pony? I think so—if you’re willing to handle the weight and size of a lens like this, you’ll be well rewarded with its impressive sharpness,

The first thing that crossed my mind when I was handed the new Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN ART lens was “Doesn’t Sigma already make an ART-series 14-24mm f/2.8 zoom?” Long story short, yes, it does… but this one’s different.
Sigma’s 14-24mm f/2.8 ART DG DN ultra-wide zoom differs from the

Some of the most cherished memories of my photographic education revolve around spending long hours in the darkroom, making prints into the wee hours of the night. While not as commonplace as it once was, if you’re fortunate enough to have a traditional black-and-white darkroom at your school, be sure to make use of it while you still can. Regardless of whether you’re taking an intro black-and-white class or an intensive printing class, one of the keys to becoming adept at black-and-white printing is, quite literally, to print! And print a lot

Canon just announced the EOS 90D DSLR and the EOS M6 Mark II mirrorless camera. Our favorite things about the 90D are the 10 fps continuous burst mode and improved autofocus tracking. We tested these features, along with the new metering system, face detection, and video modes on the 90D to really see what this camera can do.
The M6 Mark II packs all the features of the 90D into a small mirrorless camera. You also get a 14 fps continuous burst mode and controls that you would normally find on a higher-end DSLR logically laid out on its compact

I’m not a stranger to wide-angle lenses. If anything, I’m partial to them. In my book, a 24mm lens is a normal lens, and I can’t tell you how many times I shot my way out of tight spaces using a 15mm rectilinear lens. The Samyang XP 10mm f/3.5, which boasts a 130° horizontal viewing angle, is just shy of the horizontal viewing angle of our eyes (approximately 135° AoV). Though I’ve never been intimidated by ultra-wide-angle lenses,

In these days of digital photography, stumbling upon a semi-secret, not well-known photographic tool is a rare pleasure. Enter the Singh-Ray Gold-N-Blue polarizer filter. With the power of modern digital cameras and post-processing software, we tend to think that anything we want to see in an image can be created, either in the camera, or certainly on the computer in the digital darkroom. Photographic lens filters, once common in the camera bags of black-and-white

The Sigma 45mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary, long awaited and highly anticipated, is a newly developed native lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Among the initial trio of lenses recently announced, this is perhaps the sleeper hit of the group and, while it has fewer eye-catching specs, such as an f/1.2 maximum aperture or a wide-angle zoom range, this 45mm f/2.8 excels in more practical ways. It’s a much more modest lens with sneaky good

Never underestimate the importance of having your “workhorse” camera kit available and ready at all times. Obviously, “workhorse” can mean different things to different people, but for me, it’s a solid, pro-level DSLR body—the Nikon D750—and a versatile, fast zoom lens, the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Art lens. With my second D750 body and

The Rokinon AF 45mm f/1.8 FE lens for Sony E-mount cameras is one of those truly extraordinary lenses that I get to use on a regular basis (I even own a few!). It’s always a treat when somebody hands me a lens that turns out to be something better than anticipated, and the Rokinon AF 45mm f/1.8 FE is right up there in that category.
About a year ago, Rokinon introduced the first of three compact autofocus lenses dedicated for Sony E-mount
