Synthesizers appeal to a broad range of users, many of whom experience sheer delight with the sounds and symphonies they can create on a synth. Analog synthesizers are making something of a big comeback this year, and we'd like to take this opportunity to share information about the more outstanding models, and the people who love to create the tones and multitimbral tunes that these instruments are able to produce. In the course of this article, you will meet three different types of analog synth aficionados: the Desktop Beat Slinger,

What are they and who uses them? Some call them drones, some apply the label “quadcopters” as a blanket term—though they can have any number of rotors or even be planes—the FAA calls them “unmanned aerial systems” (UAS). I prefer to call them “unmanned aerial vehicles” (UAVs), a neutral term broad enough to safely include pretty much the whole gamut, from Hubsan nano drones up to commercial and military aircraft weighing hundreds of pounds and basically the size of small manned planes.

Seven by fifty. That is all you need to know. Almost. The classic size of binoculars for marine use is 7x50. This means that they have 7x magnification and the objective lenses are 50mm in diameter. There are three characteristics of the 7x50 binoculars that make them attractive for marine use: conservative magnification, large objective size, and generous exit pupil size.
Many binocular shoppers, regardless of the planned use for their optics, start off

What makes a camera specifically well suited for street photography? Good question. In a genre that appreciates the gritty, the spontaneous, the accidental, the mistake, you can pretty much use whatever works for you. If you are comfortable with a camera and can operate it with acuity, the resolution, ISO sensitivity, dynamic range, and all the relentlessly discussed quantifiable factors are much less important than the way you interact with people, understand the rhythms of the street, and recognize the qualities of light. However, there are

Buying an underwater housing is just the beginning. There are many accessories that are helpful or necessary for taking photos underwater. An external flash, also called a strobe, is your most important accessory. Photography is the art of creating images with light, and while the control of available and artificial light is important for all photography, it is especially crucial when shooting underwater. B&H carries 50 different strobe packages, so it’s no wonder choosing a strobe could be confusing for the beginning photographer. We'll

If we were to claim that listening to music on vinyl records is more popular than ever, we wouldn't be historically accurate. However, the sustained popularity of record players continues to impress us here at B&H. Many people are rediscovering their fondness for the sound and feel of vinyl records, and droves of new people are encountering it for the first time. Whether you're interested in purchasing your first record player, or if you're ready to upgrade from the one your uncle handed down to you in 1973, this guide is for you.

I can’t blame anyone but myself. I suggested the title based on the many times I’ve been asked this exact same question. So here I am attempting to answer the almost unanswerable—what camera should you buy for your upcoming trip to Italy, Africa, theme park, or... fill in the blank. Well, I suppose your destination does make a difference. If you know you will be climbing mountains or snorkeling, you will want to consider a camera that can withstand extreme environments or go underwater, and I will address that below, but because the variety of

A light meter provides crucial information to photographers and cinematographers for their work; it provides a measurement of the exposure, tells users exactly what shutter speed/aperture combination to use based on the 18% gray standard, and can even provide detailed charts and graphs on the quality and color of the lights one is using. Generally, it will be seen as a tool to check exposure settings for perfectly balanced images. Additionally, some models can provide other exceptionally useful capabilities, such as flash metering, color

An on-camera flash, also known brand-wise as a “speedlight” or “speedlite,” is an indispensible accessory for many photographers; it provides additional light when conditions become too dark to handhold your camera comfortably, allows you to achieve more balanced exposures in daylight, permits freezing of fast-moving subjects, and can also be used to control or trigger other flash light sources. Additionally, a flash can be used as a highly effective creative tool to establish an aesthetic that elevates your imagery when lighting conditions

Safety first. Remember that great little phrase? Even children know that safety comes first. But do you feel that way when it comes to your electronics and camera gear? A flash bracket is a straightforward device that enables you to produce flattering light, compared to the brilliant head-on blast that comes with simply mounting a flash atop a camera. At its most basic premise, a flash bracket attaches to your camera and allows you to position an electronic flash unit, or even a small continuous light source, at a greater distance from the lens's optical axis than a built-in or shoe-mounted flash. This results in lighting that is inherently more attractive, natural looking, and less harsh, yet still retains

This year, I have had the good fortune to try some incredible lenses on my Nikon full-frame DSLR—lenses from Zeiss and Schneider for example, but when asked to formulate a list of my photo gear picks, all I could picture was a tennis-ball canister filled with three Nikon prime “D” lenses. Why admit to such a ridiculous image? Dreaming of summer maybe, but… why not? Close in size to a tennis ball, the three lenses offer a virtually identical form factor, each with a 52mm filter diameter, and would fit quite nicely in that can. With a little

With all of the technical considerations that go into choosing a digital camera, it's easy to forget the strap. You get one with your camera, but it looks like an afterthought—a functional necessity with no style. If it were a fashion statement, it would be the equivalent of wearing black knee socks with a cocktail dress—functional, but less than attractive.
You can easily improve this situation by picking up a higher-quality strap that's more comfortable, functional—and better looking. Plus, you don't have to break the bank. There are
