This week, Leica announced the long-awaited successor to its SOFORT instant film series of cameras, aptly dubbed the SOFORT 2. It features a minimalistic, lightweight design with rounded corners and is available in black, red, and white colorways. Images are captured via a 2.4mm f/2 lens, which provides a 28mm field of view. Exposure is also controlled automatically by the camera, making operation a breeze.
The brand's latest camera enhances what was already great about the SOFORT and turns it into more of a hybrid digital camera. On the back of the camera is a 3-inch, 460k-dot LCD screen, alongside a minimalistic operation button layout. The camera's standout feature is its ability to save and print images, thanks to the new 1/5-inch digital CMOS sensor.
Indeed, combining the best parts of a mobile printer with its camera, you can print photos on the SOFORT 2 from your smartphone via the Leica FOTOS App. USB-C support, internal memory, and micro-SD card support are among the quality-of-life updates Leica has brought to the camera, as well. While the previous SOFORT had a removable battery, this time around the battery is built in, so it needs to be charged via USB.
Leica is also releasing several stylish accessories to accompany the SOFORT 2 such as wooden picture frames, bamboo frames for individual prints, wrist and carrying straps, bags, and more.
According to Leica, the SOFORT 2 will be available to order later this year, starting on November 9, and will retail for $389. Film packs will be available in warm white and neo gold. The camera is also compatible with FUJIFILM's INSTAX MINI film.
