This week, DJI released the Mavic 4 Pro with a redesigned camera configuration and Panasonic blessed hybrid shooters once again with a new addition to their full-frame mirrorless camera line.
DJI Redesigns the Mavic Series
With their newest iteration of the Mavic drone, DJI has fully redesigned the flagship for improved flying performance without sacrificing video quality. The Mavic 4 Pro forgoes the hanging gimbal design we were previously familiar with and instead features a ball-shaped 360° Infinity Gimbal. A triple-camera system is placed within with a wide-angle Hasselblad capable of capturing 100MP photos and 6K60 HDR video, a 48MP medium tele lens, and a 50MP standard tele lens with 4K60 capabilities.
All three of these cameras share some common capabilities. They can easily capture slow motion video, are equipped with dual native ISO fusion to blend high and low ISO settings, can stack up to five frames of high-resolution RAW footage, have Free Panorama & Subject Focusing modes, and feature 10-bit D-Log profiles for consistent color.
Additional improvements to the Mavic 4 Pro include upgraded ActiveTrack 360 technology for autonomous tracking and self-determined navigation. Low-light performance is enhanced with six high-performance fisheye sensors for better tracking when the sun goes down or in city environments. The drone’s tracking system can now detect vehicles from up to 656’ away. Return your Mavic to home base using Nighttime RTH and Non-FPS RTH modes. Transfer clips and images wirelessly using the DJI Fly mobile app without even needing to power your drone on.
The Mavic 4 Pro is also available in classic Fly More Combo and Creator Combo configurations. The standard drone package provides you with a remote control, intelligent flight battery, spare propellers, storage cover, USB-C data cable, and 100W USB-C power adapter. The Fly More Combo adds a shoulder bag and parallel charging hub, while the Creator Combo upgrades the remote, internal storage, and expands the power adapter capacity to 240W.
Panasonic Backs Hybrid Shooters
In their newest release, Panasonic gives us another full-frame hybrid camera suited for high-quality video and photo applications. The Lumix S1 II Mirrorless Camera features a 24.1MP partially-stacked sensor capable of capturing 6K30 open-gate video and 70 fps stills. All of this and more is presented in a lighter body for improved portability. Additional resolutions available with the stacked sensor include 5.1K60p video and FHD 240p.
The S1 II utilizes the same 779-point Phase Hybrid autofocus system as the S5 II ensures reliable performance as well as updates to the subject detection, tracking, and a new Urban Sports setting to better follow skateboarding and breakdancing. Five-axis image stabilization rated up to eight stops improves handheld shooting performance. Record ProRes RAW internally, utilize Dynamic Range Boost for 15 stops of V-Log/V-Gamut.
An Essentials version of the camera, the S1 IIE, has a 24.1MP BSI sensor with burst shooting capabilities up to 30 fps. While it also can record up to 6K30 open-gate video, the Essentials model only accommodates 14 stops of V-Log, as well as C4K/4K 3.3K, and FHD with internal 4:2:2 10-bit recording.
A slew of apps and production tools are available for both cameras to improve your production workflow. Use tools like LUMIX lab, LUMIX Flow, Frame.io Camera to Cloud, and Capture One in both post-production and tethered shooting scenarios.
