DJI has upped its gimbal game with the introduction of the RS 3 and RS 3 Pro models, along with the long-distance O3 Pro Video Transmission system. Both gimbals feature automated axis locks that unlock in lightning-fast time, letting you jump right into the action so you don’t miss that crucial shot. An updated stabilization algorithm, SuperSmooth mode, and new quick-release plate designs make your gimbal capture easier and more impressive than ever before. The RS 3 and RS 3 Pro also share exciting new features, such as wireless shutter

Anyone who has shopped for a home knows that it is difficult to evaluate a property from an online profile. Not all real estate agents have access to high-end photographers, and most importantly, it is difficult to determine the size of a space from a photo. Matterport revolutionized the industry with its turnkey solutions, empowering real estate professionals, business owners, and hospitality managers to create a “digital twin” of their property, inviting potential residents or customers to tour the digital twin on popular web platforms. The original WEEBILL LAB featured some of my favorite innovations in the world of gimbals. When the industry focused on providing the most compact gimbal, or the smoothest stabilization, Zhiyun-Tech offered an option focused on being the most intuitive to set up and comfortable to operate. The WEEBILL-2 has doubled down on the innovations that made the WEEBILL LAB and

I had the opportunity to work with the Anton/Bauer Titon Base Battery Kit for the Blackmagic Pocket 4K and 6K cameras and jumped at the chance. The Titon Base battery has a QR (Quick Release) plate that allows you to mount your camera on it for a tight shooting package with extended run time. I’m accustomed to using external batteries, since I started with Aaton and ARRI SR film cameras, as well as ENG cameras and

Jake Estes takes the Zhiyun CRANE 3S Pro out for a spin—literally! This camera stabilizer boasts a large 14.3-lb payload, an updated axis-locking system, external power input, and the ViaTouch 2.0 motion control system, connectivity with the Zy Play App and more. It can also accommodate a wide range of cinema camera sizes by utilizing a separately available extension module to extend the horizontal arm, which is now positioned

Without question, the Sony a7S III is a mirrorless camera meant for video. Impressive specs and image quality are wonderful, but it has the same problems for video as every other mirrorless camera: its form factor is better suited to stills. One solution is to get a cage, such as this Master Kit from SmallRig that I was able to take for a spin.

If you are looking for the perfect camera or lens to get for that special videographer in your life, that is a tall order. But accessories, now—accessories make the camera package. However, camera accessory purchase decisions can be difficult to make for someone else, but don’t worry—for anyone who owns gear, there is always maintenance. Owning camera gear invariably leads to needing accessories to get the most out of your kit, and maintaining the kit requires expendables.

Handheld gimbals to stabilize your video recordings seem to be gaining popularity by the minute. The days of paying a stranger $25 to cut a custom stabilizer from a meter of aluminum pipe are far behind me, and it's a welcome sign that there are now gimbals to mount a smartphone, action camera, small or mid-sized camera, large rigs for heavy pro cameras, and there are even gimbals that come with integrated cameras. Since we've got a couple of small, mirrorless camera owners around our office, I decided to take a look at the new

The Titon batteries, from Anton Bauer, are an interesting release because they’re entry-level models, yet they have nothing but top features. They were designed without any buttons or an LED gauge, so they can be offered at an accommodating cost. That’s how they were introduced at NAB 2019. Non-essential features were removed to achieve this. But at the same time, they have a 10A output, intelligent algorithm, P-Tap and USB ports, and one of the widest operating temperatures ever. They also feature 1,000 charge/discharge cycles, a large LCD,

Virtually every product Bright Tangerine releases has a key feature or two that solves major problems, and quality is a standard with them. This fully applies to their Titan arms. Whereas articulating arms commonly have a rosette-type center mechanism, Bright Tangerine’s Titan arms have a reinvented design based on a new center mechanism. The company calls it "core transmission technology.” This new technology generates 2.5 tons of pressure that’s

Monitors are flawed. They display limited color space, usually sRGB (although newer ones can display a wider color gamut), they age and change over time, and different backlight technologies will affect how the images are displayed. Let us not forget that the viewing conditions make a big difference in how we perceive, and need to be considered. For text, this isn't important, but for the visual media, this can make a huge difference. I remember the analog days of trying to calibrate the field monitor by eye, using the various test patterns

In Part 1 of this article, I discussed my experience using the RED GEMINI camera brain with 5K S35 sensor and I mentioned that this was really my first time using a RED camera, shooting raw, and using RED CINE-X PRO software to output. There is a bit of a learning curve and, to be truthful, it is a

Long known for solid, stable sliders, Rhino wants to make smooth camera movement much easier for everyday use and travel, with the RŌV series. Taking all the brilliance of its EVO sliders and Motion controllers and condensing it down into a single unit—with the added benefit of Bluetooth connectivity—Rhino created something truly amazing. Going hands-on with the RŌV made it clear to me that it is one of the most intuitive, portable, and

Join Jake Estes as he explores the Sony PXW-Z280 4K XDCAM Camcorder, a replacement of the highly popular PXW X200. The Z280 retains some of the features that made its predecessor great, and it adds even more powerful capabilities, such as UHD 4K at 59.94 4:2:2 (10-bit), face-detecting AF with single-face priority, and a USB port on the back of the camera for easily backing up to a flash drive. Keep watching for more details and
