When asked by my best friend what things I’d collect if money wasn’t a concern, I replied, “Not cars, not guitars, not VHS tapes of old movies, and definitely not those weird little Furbies. I’d amass loads of headphones like a fiend. I love headphones, man.” So, my collector spirit animal was thrilled to find out Shure was shipping some new headphones—the SRH440A and

Occasionally, when a new product drops, my internal reaction is: finally. Often, you’re waiting for an update or new feature to be introduced that is, at least in your own mind, long overdue. This is exactly where I was at with the Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT Bluetooth headphones.
There are few pieces of audio equipment that are as equally at home in studios as they are in the hands of your typical music lover than Audio-

In the time I’ve been at B&H, I’ve been lucky enough to review many types of earphones from different manufacturers. Growing from my experience in Pro Audio, earphones are a bit of a passion of mine, because they are the crossroads between my love for audio and my love for consumer tech, so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Shure’s new KSE1200 Electrostatic Earphones. The KSE1200s are essentially the same earphones

Just like any tech, there are

Technology tends toward iteration; true innovation is rare. This is especially true in audio, where a high-quality set of studio monitors or headphones can last a decade or more without needing to be repaired or replaced. I love audio and delight in exploring new products and the technologies that make them possible. Imagine my delight when I first heard about the Audeze iSine10,

Like the Star Trek villain whose name is strikingly similar, the KANN Portable Music Player, from the folks at Astell&Kern, is engineered from the ground up to be better—an improvement on what we've come to expect (in this less nefarious case) from a digital music player. As we've replaced our MP3/digital audio players with our increasingly powerful smartphones, many of us have accepted music playback as just another app in what is a Swiss-Army device of

I admit it: I am an audio snob, but at the same time, I find the concept of some “audiophile” gear to be ridiculous. Some people go to lengths to enjoy their music that are well beyond reasonable and border on the absurd, and my experience as a recording engineer always has me reaching for the practical approach. While I track audio at high resolution rates (24-bit, 88.2 or 96 kHz) for mixing purposes, I have never experienced a practical difference listening to a mastered album at higher-than-CD quality or one at normal CD quality (sorry Neil
