B&H Photo News Roundup: Week of February 9, 2025

We have a smattering of new developments to cover this week. Nikon and RED brought NIKKOR Z mount lenses to RED cinema cameras. In other news, Hollyland extended the reach of their Cosmo transmission system, Wacom introduced the Intuos Pro, Beats by Dr Dre released the Powerbeats Pro 2, and Profoto provided accessories for the L1600D mono-LED.

Developments for Nikon and RED

Ever since Nikon bought RED we’ve been waiting to see what products will come out of this exciting partnership. Previously, there were some logical firmware updates to RED camera software for Nikon data support. But now we finally have it, a new Nikon video lens and native Z mounts on RED’s major cinema camera releases of the last three years.

Back in October of last year, Nikon announced it was developing the NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ Lens. This would be its first foray into the video space, delivering that familiar optical performance to filmmakers and documentarians. And now, it’s here—the Z mount lens is compatible with full-frame and FX-format mirrorless cameras like the Nikon Z9. Let’s dive into some of the details.

The internal zoom mechanism of the lens features 11 different zoom speeds you can choose from and pair with the zoom lever or your compatible camera’s Fn buttons. You can even remotely control it with the NX Tether software, SnapBridge, or NX Field apps. Nikon’s Meso Amorphous Coat significantly reduces the ghosting and flare of your images. A stepping motor ensures speedy and quiet autofocus for quick adjustments.

In tandem with this release, RED is now offering the KOMODO-X and V-RAPTOR [X] cinema cameras with native Z mounts. If you already own a KOMODO-X or V-RAPTOR [X] you can purchase upgrade kits for each model to switch the RF mount for a Z mount. There’s more on the horizon for Nikon and RED’s partnership, and we can’t wait to see what’s next!

Hollyland Extends the Cosmos

With the Cosmo C2, Hollyland is extending your video transmission reach and upgrading your streaming support. The new system maintains a maximum video resolution of 1080p60 but can transmit that signal up to 3000’ to a single receiver. HEVO 2.0 technology automatically detects interference and seamlessly switches to a clean channel within the system’s 5 GHz frequency band. RTMP direct live streaming and NDI|HX protocols are supported by the system.

Wacom Introduces the Intuos Pro

\Wacom’s Intuos Pro has been updated for 2025! It's designed with beginners in mind, allowing you to create illustrations, designs, and edit photos using an intuitive interface. Included is the Wacom Pro Pen 3 which brings 8192 levels of pressure sensitivity and can be fully customized to suit your preferences. The tablet is available in three different sizes—small, medium, and large. It offers both wireless and wired connectivity options to your Windows or macOS computer via included USB cable or Bluetooth 5.3 technology.

Beats by Dr. Dre Upgrades the Powerbeats Pro

In their newest iteration of the Powerbeats Pro, you can continue to listen to your favorite tunes on your next long run or lifting session without worrying about the amount you sweat. The Pro 2 headphones are IPX4 rated, feature active noise cancelling, and a Transparency mode for when you want to be aware of your surroundings. Monitor your heart rate directly from the headphones with their integrated LED optical sensors. Dual-layer drivers deliver optimal sound of your favorite albums and artists to keep you pumped. Plus, take calls with greater accuracy with improved microphones.

Profoto Outfits the L1600D with Accessories

Profoto has released more accessories for the L1600D mono-LED light for improved performance. A Barndoor Kit features a four-way design for greater light-shaping flexibility and 360° rotation.  The previously included Boost Reflector is now available separately with an individual soft bag to expand the L1600D’s light intensity. And finally, you can extend your L1600D’s power reach with the 32.8’ Extension Cable.
