B&H Photo News Roundup: Week of February 16, 2025

It’s been a quiet week, so we’re taking this opportunity to feature some older (but still notable) announcements, along with our weekly dose of new products. DJI brought us new stabilizers for both cameras and smartphones with the Osmo Mobile 7, Osmo Mobile 7P, and DJI RS 4 Mini. HARMAN technology released Red 125 Redscale 35mm film, Voiglander introduced the APO-Ultron 90mm f/2 VM Lens, Godox added to the IM series flashes with the IM20 Mini and gave us the RS60R RGB LED Monolight.

New DJI Gimbal Stabilizers for Smartphones and Cameras

The new news for the week is DJI’s release of both the OM 7 series gimbals and the DJI RS 4 Mini gimbal. These new gimbals build on the advancements of the previous versions to bring stabilized video to any device.

The Osmo Mobile 7 and Osmo Mobile 7P gimbals feature a familiar quick-launching construction with upgraded ActiveTrack 7.0 technology. Automatic zooming and gimbal movements make continuous filming of your subjects intuitive and easy, regardless of obstructions in the environment. An upgraded phone clamp easily accommodates Android and iOS devices up to 3.3” wide, aligning the gimbal accordingly.

A new Parents and Kids Mode allows you to capture family memories thanks to enhanced kids tracking and guided shooting templates. Both gimbals can be controlled using the DJI Mimo app. The app facilitates remote control using your Apple Watch, provides AI-powered editing, and recommends shot sequences using ShotGuides. Internal batteries in the gimbals keep them running for 10 hours at a time and offer the option to recharge your smartphone when powered off and folded.

Where the Osmo Mobile 7P differs is the inclusion of the Multifunctional Module, which adds tracking to your smartphone’s native camera app or third-party apps. The module features a tracking camera which unlocks gesture controls for hands-free adjustments. It also has an integrated fill light with brightness and color temperature controls. Embedded Bluetooth connectivity also makes the module a wireless receiver for DJI Mic Mini transmitters to record enhanced audio. The Osmo Mobile 7P also has a built-in expansion rod that adds 8.5” of length for improved perspectives.

If you’re looking to expand your gimbal’s compatibility to mirrorless cameras, the RS 4 Mini is a great option. Take the notable RS series stabilization algorithm and shrink it down to ultra-portable size. The RS 4 Mini weighs just 2 lb but can support loads up to 4.4 lb to accommodate compact mirrorless camera rigs or even smartphones with a separately available phone holder.

An OLED touchscreen calibrates your parameters, and onboard controls can provide camera control with select models. Wireless control is possible via Bluetooth and the Ronin app. Switch between horizontal and vertical orientations as well as other shooting perspectives to achieve your creative vision. Dual quick release plates prevent the need to rebalance your gimbal constantly for faster setup. The internal 3100mAh battery keeps the gimbal running for up to 13 hours at a time in fixed mode.

The RS 4 Mini comes in a combo kit with the addition of the RS Intelligent Tracking Module. The module pairs with the gimbal’s ActiveTrack technology for one-tap intelligent tracking and framing of people from up to 32.8’ away. Control with the gimbal or using hand gestures.

HARMAN technology Redscale Film

You’re heard of color film and black and white film, but why not trade grayscale for redscale with HARMAN technology’s Red 125? The 35mm roll exposes images through a red-sensitive layer to capture red, orange, and yellow hues. The film boasts a medium ISO speed of 125, a clear base, no anti-halation layer, and a high red sensitivity for minimal speed loss. Over or underexposing your image allows you to play with the film’s grain and the shadow contrast of your subject matter.

Voigtlander Introduces the APO-Ultron 90mm

Whether you’re shooting in digital or film rangefinder formats, Voigtlander has got you covered with the APO-Ultron 90mm f/2 VM Lens. The prime has a Leica M mount and features an apochromatic optical design which reduces axial chromatic aberration entirely. Six of the eight internal elements are made from Abnormal Partial Dispersion glass for sharp images with minimal vignetting. A 12-blade rounded diaphragm creates a smooth bokeh.

Godox Adds a New Flash and LED Monolight

Godox is keeping it compact with its newest flash and monolight releases. The IM20 Mini Flash adds to its preexisting IM series lineup, sharing the same features but in a smaller, square design. Simple button controls and a hot shoe connection make for plug-and-play integration with your camera rig. The flash’s internal battery provides up to 440 full-power flashes within a three-second recycling time on a single charge. Manually adjust the output in five steps for greater control in a wide variety of applications.

The RS60R RGB LED Monolight provides full RGB color in a small form factor. The light has an 1800 to 10,000K CCT and a maximum output of 11,000 lux at 3.3’ and 5600K. This makes it ideal for both broadcast and studio applications. Toggle between 14 special lighting effects, select different lighting modes, and adjust other parameters using onboard controls, app control, and Bluetooth/DMX connectivity.
