B&H Photo News Roundup: Week of December 8, 2024

Another week, another roundup. This week, Hohem upgrades the iSteady M7 with AI tracking and RODE introduces the Wireless GO III with 32-bit float recording.

Hohem Brings AI Tracking to the iSteady

The newest iteration of Hohme’s flagship iSteady gimbal now features integrated AI tracking—an upgrade over the previous model which required the use of a separate module or app. The iSteady M7 includes an advanced AI tracking module that doubles as a fill light with 2W output and a detachable touchscreen remote control for wireless adjustments. Easily film stabilized footage for your next vlog with smartphones 2.28 to 3.5” wide, including foldable smartphones with a thickness up to 0.5”

AI-powered tracking and autofocus are facilitated by the module’s 2MP sensor which detects people, objects, and other subject matter. It works in tandem with your phone’s native camera for live streaming and video capturing. The module can also detect gesture control movements to set your preferred tracking position. A built-in fill light has 360 color options and a CCT range of 2700 to 6500K to achieve your desired look.

The gimbal’s main 1.4” OLED touchscreen is a part of a detachable remote control, allowing you to adjust parameters from up to 32.8’ away. Double-tap or drag-select your desired tracking target to center and record. You can also preview your footage in real time with its video transmission capabilities from up to 23’ away in full color.

Other improvements to the M7 include an integrated 7.5” extension pole, ultra-wide-angle shooting mode, and iSteady 9.0 stabilization technology. A 3200mAh battery keeps the gimbal running for up to 12 hours at a time (eight when the AI tracker is engaged) and can even output power to your smartphone for charging. On-the-go content creators will appreciate the versatility of this gimbal and the new improvements that make it an all-in-one vlogging machine.

RODE Upgrades the Wireless GO Series

You’ve wanted it, RODE’s giving it to you. And by it I mean 32-bit recording on a Wireless GO system. Welcome the new Wireless GO III, the third-generation of RODE’s compact wireless microphone array. It comes in a two-person configuration with two transmitters and features like said 32-bit float onboard recording, internal storage, and increased transmission distance.

Previously, users wanting to record in 32-bit had to use a companion app to export previously recorded files in 32-bit at 48 kHz. But now with the Wireless GO III, 32-bit float recording is built-in. This makes recovering clipped or quiet audio files much more intuitive. The transmitters in the new system also have 32GB of internal storage for an extra layer of security, capable of storing over 40 hours of backup recordings.

USB-C connectivity and Series IV 2.4 GHz digital transmission with 128-bit encryption can connect to a wide variety of cameras, smartphones, and computers of your choice. Intelligent GainAssist technology provides flexible output gain control and a safety channel for clear audio capture in unpredictable environments. Monitor your audio with the receiver’s 3.5mm TRRS jack and adjust levels with onboard controls. Components in the system communicate from up to 853’ away, an extension of the previous model’s capabilities.

Record audio for seven hours at a time with the system’s built-in batteries. The receiver can automatically detect when a connected output source can provide plug-in power to save some battery life. Once depleted, recharge the entire system with the included charging hub. Users already familiar with the RODE Wireless workflow will appreciate the GO III’s familiar form, as well as the needed 32-bit upgrade.
