If you have been around photography for a while, you might remember the center focus filter that left the center of your frame sharp, but blurred and softened everything around it. The center of the filter was clear (or even simply air as it was cut out), and the edge was frosted glass. Some photographers achieved the same effect by smearing petroleum jelly on the edges of their lenses. Today, through the creativity and design of the

There is no camera currently on the market that is more well-rounded than the Nikon D850. It offers everything you could possibly want and then some. Balancing outstanding resolution with more than enough speed and then tossing in UHD 4K video really does make this a versatile system and, perhaps, the best camera to be released in 2017. At home I like shooting food and, since I am dating someone who is studying to be a chef, there is always plenty

Jealous of the epic time-lapse photography that has been populating the Interweb for the last several years? Me too! I am especially jealous of those time-lapse videos that feature camera motion where the scene pans and tilts as dramatic clouds pass over a scenic landscape. Luckily, I have the brand-new Cinetics Lynx 3-Axis Motorized Slider at my disposal, to try my hand at motion time-lapse photography.

At last, a DSLR that excites me 100%. Seemingly with no compromises in sight, the Nikon D850 has recently burst onto the scene as the most anticipated DSLR release this year. And fittingly so. But, does the D850 live up to its hype? Has Nikon “done it again” with another D800-series camera? I had the opportunity to take it out for a few days in upper Manhattan to see what all the fuss is about.

By now you have probably heard a lot about the Nikon D850 DSLR. This new camera has been lauded by Nikon fans (and critics) and you’ll get no argument from me. As a colleague phrased it, “Nikon gave us everything we asked for with this camera,” and certainly, it is blessed with Nikon’s best features and latest technologies, including a 45.7MP sensor, native ISO to 25600, 153-point autofocus, a tilting, touchscreen LCD, and 4K UHD video. We took

Single lens reflex cameras (SLRs) began arriving on our shores from post-war Japan during the mid-1950s. Though reflex viewing systems have been around since the first camera obscura was introduced, in 1676, consumers had to wait until 1936 when Exacta introduced the Ihagee Kine, the first consumer 35mm SLR. Other companies soon joined the party. In 1959, Nikon raised a number of eyebrows when it introduced the Model “F”, a camera

Preparations for PhotoPlus Expo have begun, with Zeiss getting a head start with today’s announcement of its latest full-frame lens: the Milvus 25mm f/1.4 for Canon EF and Nikon F. This brings the Milvus lineup to eleven and, while the lens design and look are very familiar at this point, this newcomer does surprise with a whole stop

As a photographer, I’ve learned to appreciate the subtle and not-so-subtle differences between lenses of differing focal lengths. I’ve used full-frame lenses as wide as 10mm, as long as 1200mm, and just about every focal length in between but, for some reason, 135mm lenses have never resonated with me.
Give me an 85mm or 105mm lens and I’m happy. Ditto 150mm and 180mm lenses. But mount a 135mm lens on my camera and something in my creative soul curls up and starts rocking back and forth in fetal position. Why? I don’t know, but when a friend

Hot off the release of the new Nikon D850, B&H got a chance to give four of our photographers some time with the camera. With an incredible new 45.7MP sensor, massively improved auto-focus, 4k video, and even post-friendly features such as focus stacking, we see just what the D850 is capable of.

Are you reading this because you are wondering if the new Nikon D850 camera is better than the Nikon D810? Are you questioning whether the aging D800 that has been your high-resolution workhorse for years will give the new camera a run for its money? What brings you here? You pretty much want to know if the Nikon D850 is a spectacular photographic

While strolling through Midtown Manhattan with my family over the weekend, we stopped for a few minutes at the courtyard of the Stephen A. Schwarzman building, the main branch of the New York Public Library. It was one of those moments during the golden hour in which the light was hitting the architecture just right, and I’d wished I’d had my camera with me. This library never stood out to me as a prime subject to photograph, but now I’d seen it in a new light (pun intended). So, on Monday, when I was asked to review the new

After months of running around with nothing but mirrorless and rangefinder cameras, the first thing that came to mind when I picked up the new Pentax flagship DSLR was, “Geeeeeez this puppy’s heavy…” The Pentax K-1 is, indeed, a heavy camera, especially when paired with an HD Pentax-D FA 24-70mm f/2.8 ED SDM WR zoom lens, but the image quality

There is one thing that the Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD does better than any other lens on the market, and that is offer a seriously impressive zoom range in a relatively compact form factor. I found it hard not to love and respect the lens for this feature alone because, for many shooters who have been craving some extra zoom from their one-lens kit, this is the only option available. Tamron has managed to bring the

As a film photographer, I rarely get to experience the joy and excitement of new products being released to the market. I’ve made my peace with this and have learned to work within a milieu of cameras and materials that have been on the shelves for decades. However, when Bergger recently released Pancro 400, I eagerly anticipated the chance to try a truly new film for one of the few times in my life.
Besides just being a new film, Bergger
