Nearly two years ago, Harman released their first color negative film: Phoenix 200. This character-rich film was known for its bold colors, strong grain, and distinct color and shadow rendering—along with a bit of uncertainty while shooting. While fun and spontaneous, it was a difficult film to control or necessarily rely on. Today, Harman has announced the second generation of this film: Phoenix II 200.

Using a digital back with a film-era camera body forces you to stand in two different generations with regard to photography and design. Hasselblad makes this contradiction a reality with their CFV 100C digital back, which is natively compatible with all of their 500 and 200-series camera bodies from the past 70+ years. This unique ability points to Hasselblad’s success in design—being able to maintain

While best known around B&H as one of the leading camera and photography brands, Nikon is, first and foremost, an optics manufacturer. Looking beyond camera lenses, though, Nikon's other optical pursuits lie in the sport optics realm, including binoculars, spotting scopes, and laser rangefinders. A subsection of the laser rangefinder category is golf laser rangefinders—palm-sized monoculars that incorporate a laser to measure the distance to an object. In the context of golf, you'll be using these to determine the distance between yourself

There is undeniable appeal in vintage gear and Thypoch is proving this point with their Eureka 50mm f/2 lens—a vintage-styled lens that’s still quite modern in performance. Classic cameras, retro lenses, photo gear that evokes the past … it’s been a trend for the past several years in the photo world, with the approach being split between contemporary products shielded in a vintage exterior or

Hasselblad has been adding to and revamping their XCD lens lineup over the past few years, creating new series and offering more variety for different types of photographers to find their niche. Their newest lens, the XCD 75mm f/3.4 P, is part of the P series, which stands for Portable. It's among the smallest and lightest lenses for the system considering its long-normal focal length, relatively bright design,

Designed primarily for sports and wildlife photography, super telephoto lenses let you take advantage of long focal lengths, a narrow field of view, and shallow depth of field to fill the frame with distant subjects that are more isolated from the background. The narrow field of view also creates a compression effect, making the subject seem closer to the background than it is. With focal lengths

Macro photography demands precision. Mere millimeters can determine an image’s success. To help small-scale photographers, tripod and accessories manufacturer Oben has released a new pair of macro focusing rails in 4” FRM-4S and 7” FRM-4L options—available separately and together as a kit. Recently, I was able to get my hands on the new focusing rails, along with

Although it's relatively new, the Oben CQL-13 Compact Carbon Fiber Tripod has already made quite a name for itself, garnering praise, popularity, and a growing list of five-star reviews. Available only at B&H, the CQL-13 features an equally exclusive stat sheet, especially for a travel tripod. Its alluring feature set includes an incredibly lightweight, pound-and-a-half design that extends up to 51.1” and folds down to 14.

OWC has been aggressively pushing into the memory card space over the past few years—a move that only seems natural for a company already known for creating excellent storage solutions. With a history of reliable and fast memory options, it should come as no surprise that their card offerings feature top-of-the-line specs or push the media further than it has in the past. That is certainly the case with the Atlas Pro

Like a painter mastering realism before advancing to abstraction, photographers benefit greatly from learning to shoot film before moving to digital.
Stark black-and-white images can swiftly and brutally reveal a weak composition. And shooting with film teaches photographers to be thoughtful about what subjects are worth one of their precious 36 frames. Beginning with black-and-white film helps creates a visually articulate and well-rounded shooter. Which is why many universities have stuck to the practice, despite our entrenchment in a

The Pentax K-3 Mark III Monochrome is one of the most surprising camera releases in recent memory. As a brand that’s already in rare air with its dedication to the DSLR, the choice to further isolate Pentax with a black-and-white-only DSLR is definitely intriguing―but also incredibly fun and refreshing. I had a chance to shoot with the camera for a little while; my immediate takeaways relate to nostalgia. It’s exciting to

Creative, distinct, and blur would be the three words I’d pick to sum up Lensbaby’s latest lens, the Sweet 22. Honestly, though, these descriptors could probably be used to describe any of Lensbaby’s offerings, which have evolved over the years from lenses meant for tinkering to new, simple-to-use models that are straightforward, stand-alone instruments. Lensbaby describes the Sweet 22 as having “the smallest sweet
