Apple recently announced a bunch of new iPads, and if you're planning on picking one up, you should definitely pair it with an accessory or two. Not only will the right accessory provide additional functionality, it will also improve your overall experience by helping you get the most out of your new iPad. Here's a list of some our favorite iPad accessories.
Apple Pencil
Without a doubt, the Apple Pencil is one of the most useful iPad accessories available. Not only is it an essential tool for creative applications, but the Pencil is also an excellent navigation and UX tool, allowing users to easily navigate and interact with iPadOS, as well as the iPad's many dynamic features and applications.
Apple recently dropped a new version of the Pencil, the Apple Pencil Pro. It's the biggest update the Pencil has received in quite a while and comes with some impressive quality-of-life updates, including new gesture controls like the ability to "squeeze" and pull up contextual features. Apple also added a tracking feature similar to an Apple AirTag, so you'll be able to locate the Pencil if you misplace it.
Keep in mind that not every version of iPad is compatible with every version of Apple Pencil. If you're on a 10th-gen iPad, for example, you want to go with the first-generation Apple Pencil. However, if you're running an iPad Pro or Air (newer models excluded), you want to go with the second-generation Pencil.
Also, while using the Pencil is pretty satisfying on its own, if you really want to recreate a pencil-on-paper experience, consider picking up a Paperlike screen protector, which adds a matte-like paper texture to your iPad's screen.
Magic Keyboard
If you want to use your iPad as your primary device, consider picking up a case with a built in-keyboard and trackpad. There are plenty of great options available, including Apple's redesigned Magic Keyboard, which features an aluminum clamshell and large tracked for a MacBook-like experience.
While Apple's version is very sleek and features seamless integration with iPadOS, it's also rather expensive. If you're looking for a budget-friendly alternative, consider the Logitech Combo Touch, which typically offers many of the same features as Apple's premium keyboard case, but at a dramatically reduced cost.
SSD
If you need additional storage for your iPad, consider picking up a portable SSD. Samsung makes some of the best SSDs around. Case in point, the T7 Shield, which offers the perfect combination of performance, price, and portability. The T7 comes in 1TB, 2TB and 4TB capacities and it's also IP65-rated for dust and water resistance, and can handle drops of up to 3 meters. If you're looking for speed, security, and portability in a rugged package, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better portable storage solution.
Battery Pack
Portable power is essential for iPad aficionados on the go. The ANKER 737 Power Bank features a hefty 24,000 mAh of battery power, which is enough juice to charge your iPad several times over. It has two USB-C ports as well as a singular USB-A port. It even has a built-in rotating display that shows you information about the battery, including how much charge you have left—a welcome alternative to the ambiguous indicator lights you see on most battery packs.
