Microsoft announced two new Surface devices today―the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6―via its Surface for Business event. These won't be directly available to consumers, however, because Microsoft is aiming these at businesses and professionals instead. The event also put a significant emphasis on AI-powered features, with Microsoft even announcing a separate event to highlight the brand’s vision later this year.
Both Surface models are powered by the latest Intel® Core Ultra™ processors, which is definitely the biggest takeaway from the event, because both devices remain largely unchanged design-wise. Microsoft claims that the Surface Laptop 6 is twice as fast as the previous model, while the Pro 10 is up to 53% faster than the Pro 9. The new processors are also the secret sauce behind new AI-powered features like Copilot, Windows Studio Effects, Live Captions and more.
Surface Pro 10 for Business
Microsoft is offering the Surface Pro 10 with a Core Ultra™ 5 135U or Core Ultra™ 7 165U chip. The Pro 9 was running on 12th-gen Intel® chips, so expect some improvements to performance and battery life this time around with the two-generation jump. The Pro 10's 2880 x 1920 display has also been improved, with a 33% increase in brightness alongside a higher contrast ratio and anti-reflective coating. The camera also received an upgrade this time around. Microsoft has put an Ultrawide Studio Camera that captures video in 1440p and features a 114° field of view. Otherwise, its detachable design remains unchanged.
Surface Laptop 6 for Business
The Surface Laptop 6 also received an upgrade to its processors, this time with Intel® Core Ultra™ H-series chips. You'll be able to configure these with either a Core Ultra™ 5 135H or the Core Ultra™ 7 165H processor. It still comes in a 13.5" or 15" variant with PixelSense touchscreen displays featuring anti-reflective and adaptive color technology that helps reduce reflections by up to 50%. As for other upgrades, there is a new 1080p camera and the 15" version includes two Thunderbolt™ 4 ports. The 13.5" model has one. Microsoft states that these systems have an improved thermal capacity.
Microsoft also made a few accessory announcements for Surface, too, including a Surface Pro keyboard and a bunch of accessibility-focused "Adaptive Accessories." Expect the updated Surface models to be available starting around April 9. Pricing-wise, both models start at $1199 and go up from there, depending on the configuration.
