If you’re a storyteller who appreciates the rich, appealing natural look of classic films, Tokina’s new Vista-C Prime Lenses have you covered. This set of nine primes ranging from 18mm to 135mm combines a unique vintage look with the ease of a modern lens design, offering coverage for up to full-frame and large format sensors including VistaVision.
The robust 46.7mm image circle coverage of these ARRI PL full-frame primes enables the 35mm and longer lenses to support even larger formats like that of the ALEXA 65 Open Gate. And with a superfast T1.5 maximum aperture across the series, they’re ready for low-light capture and shallow depth-of-field effects. Initially available in ARRI PL mounts, the Vista-C primes will be offered down the line with ARRI LPL, Canon EF, Micro Four Thirds, and Sony E mounts for compatibility with an array of pro cine-style cameras.
For the Vista-C lenses, Tokina has completely redesigned their Vista series’ optical formula. This new structure creates a unique vintage look recalling the natural falloff, softer edges, pleasing bokeh effects, and subtle field distortion of classic cinema lenses. This all-new optical design also features improved color reproduction, letting you accurately capture your scene.
Seasoned shooters know that, when used judiciously, flares can be used to impart a sense of realism, open space, and/or spontaneity to your scenes. The blue and red flares produced by the Vista-C primes have noticeably less green than earlier lens styles, producing warmer looks than those you’ve seen used in many sci-fi and action films.
Like the existing Tokina Cinema Vista and Vista-P lenses, the Vista-C primes have virtually no breathing, minimizing any noticeable changes in focal length when racking focus. To speed your lens changes when using lens systems and matte boxes, these durable, all-metal housing lenses have FIZ (focus, iris, zoom) gear positions that are standardized across the series.
