Eight years after the NAB debut of the Tilta Nucleus-M, Tilta is back at the convention unveiling the highly anticipated Nucleus-M II Wireless Lens Control System, an updated version of their immensely popular follow focus system. The Nucleus-M II brings support for up to four motors\–Focus, Iris, Zoom, and ND–as well as wireless camera control with a range of compatible cameras.
The FIZ Handwheel Controller is still the centerpiece of the system, and the new iteration utilizes NP-F550 batteries in lieu of the original’s 18650s. The Controller can now also wirelessly adjust ISO, White Balance, Shutter Speed and more with compatible cameras. Another much-requested upgrade arrives with its ability to store and load mapped lens data for up to 128 lenses. This helps with real time focus, iris, and zoom information on the 2.4” touchscreen color display, as well as assists ACs with hitting specific marks.
The new Handwheel now has adjustable tension, a depth of field indicator, and built-in support for left-handed users. The streamlined wireless motors have upgraded LED indicators, direction adjustment, increased torque, and a “PID 2.0” algorithm that gives them consistent 0.02s or less response times.
The Nucleus-M II Ultimate Kit available at launch includes a Handwheel Controller, a Left Handgrip, a Right Handgrip, and two lens motors, plus additional cabling, mounting brackets, Marking Disks, and a hard case.
Compatibility is a big focus for the Nucleus-M II, as it can work with a huge range of lenses, whether they have 0.8 or 0.5 gear pitches, as well as controllers and motors from previous Nucleus systems, including the Nano II. The Nucleus-M II also has DJI RS protocol support for working with DJI motors and Ronin-series stabilizers.
