The wait is over for the next handheld smartphone gimbals from DJI: the Osmo Mobile 7 and Osmo Mobile 7P (and a new series of accessories) have just been released and they pack a whole lot of features into their tiny, portable package. Gimbal highlights include even quicker folding, a new tracking module, integrated audio support, LED lighting, ActiveTrack 7.0, phone charging, and a longer battery life.
Extensive Feature Set
The OM 7 series gimbals maintain the powerful Osmo Mobile 3-axis gimbal motors, a built-in tripod, and the full-featured DJI Mimo companion Android/iOS app for capture, editing, and sharing to help creators capture and present their creative best. It supports smartphones up to 10.6 oz, which encompasses most smartphones on the market.
Other features include multiple shooting modes such as pan/tilt/roll presets, FPV mode, fixed pan mode, and SpinShot. Instant Switch quickly flips your camera around for selfie mode when pressing the trigger. Time lapse, panorama, dynamic zoom, and parent/kid modes add even more drama and personality to your footage. An updated ActiveTrack 7.0 provides stable tracking at longer distances and works with the included Multifunctional Module for added tracking accuracy.
If you have an Apple Watch, you can also set up remote control of the gimbal using the Mimo watch app. The battery life of the gimbal has been increased to 10 hours, and a USB output allows you to charge your phone while it’s mounted on the gimbal.
Osmo Mobile 7P vs. 7
There are two models of the new gimbal, which have a few differences. The OM 7P model includes the Multifunctional Module for tracking/light/microphone—the module is supported by the OM 7, but optional. The OM 7P has a manual focus and zoom wheel on the side to finely control your phones camera as well as control the fill light settings on the Multifunctional module. The OM 7P also features a built-in extension rod, which is not available on the OM 7; however, they both pack in all the other features, including Quick Launch, AI Editor, phone charging, a 10-hour battery life, and a built-in tripod.
Hardware Tracking … with Light
One of the neatest additions to the new DJI OM 7 series lineup is the Multifunctional Module. The tiny unit quickly installs onto the side of the phone clamp using a magnetic clip. It enables advanced human subject tracking by connecting to your phone’s camera via Bluetooth or USB. It also allows gesture control to enable/disable tracking, start/stop recording, or to trigger a record countdown. Also built into the module is a bi-color fill light, and it can connect wirelessly to the optional DJI Mic Mini, so you can add more light and enhanced sound to your production.

New Accessories and Options
Several accessories have been introduced with the Osmo Mobile 7 and 7P to enhance your experience. Designed specifically for iPhone users, a Magnetic Quick Release Mount makes it easy to mount and remove your iPhone from the gimbal, and there is also a new Universal Magnetic Phone Clamp.

If you decide to add the Multifunctional Module to your Osmo Mobile 7 later, the OM 7 Series Tracking Kit is available as an option.
