Shure Announces the MV7i Smart Microphone + Interface

Shure has introduced a fresh element to its popular MV7 and MV7+ USB mics with a new built-in interface: the MV7i Smart Microphone + Interface. The new interface gives podcasters, content creators, and musicians, a compact and versatile, all-in-one solution for their recording needs. Featuring a handy XLR-1/4-inch input that can accept microphones, instruments, and line-level signals, the MV7i gives users the option to add a podcasting guest or record a guitar or keyboard alongside their vocals.

The XLR input offers 48V phantom power for condenser microphones, while the preamp provides up to 60dB of gain, which is enough to power even the hardest to drive dynamic mics without the need for an external signal booster.

Sonically modeled after the Shure SM7B, the MV7i is designed to deliver a rich, clean, and natural vocal reproduction. It also stands out as an optimal choice for vocalists and musicians, handling SPLs up to 128 dB and providing a wide 50 Hz to 16 kHz frequency response.

The MV7i employs a unidirectional cardioid polar patter, which allows it  to direct its focus on the speaker or singer while minimizing any noise from the surrounding environment. And for untreated rooms, the mic’s companion noise-reduction software should further help attenuate any hum from interferences like air conditioners or computers.

With respect to USB performance, the dual-channel MV7i captures audio at sample rates and resolution up to 48 kHz / 24-bit, meeting the professional standard for broadcast audio. On the mic itself, you’ll also find an integrated touch-panel interface that allows you to control levels, headphones volumes, as well as monitor your mix and mute the mic when needed. Monitoring is done via the built-in 3.5mm headphone jack, and you can mix your microphone output and system audio playback levels individually with the help of the MOTIV Mix desktop app.

The package also includes a foam windscreen, which features an air gap for enhanced resistance to plosives and mouth sounds, potentially saving you time in the editing phase. The MV7i also integrates a built-in yoke, making it ready to mount to a stand right out of the box.
