Last year, Shure had great success with the release of its MoveMic wireless lavalier mic system. And now, they are expanding this idea further with the launch of the MoveMic 88+ wireless stereo microphone system. Featuring variable polar patterns, the MoveMic 88+ is designed to capture professional quality audio wirelessly along with your video recording, whether using a phone, camera, or tablet.
The MoveMic 88+ integrates powerful Bluetooth technology that lets you position the microphone up to 100 feet away from your camera, phone, or tablet. This allows users to record both audio and video to the same device without sacrificing sound quality. Wireless functionality is great news for video content creators who in the past had to use a separate audio recorder for their shoots; no longer do you need to spend time syncing your audio and video in post-production.
When recording to a mobile device via Bluetooth, you can make use of Shure’s MOTIV Video or MOTIV Audio app. Alternatively, if recording to a camera, users can opt for the MoveMic 88+ Receiver Kit, which gives you additional compatibility with DSLR cameras, Mac and PC computers, and third-party iOS and Android apps. The dual-channel receiver can be connected via USB-C or 3.5mm cables. (A lightning cable can also be used for those who own older iOS versions).
The MoveMic 88+ features advanced digital signal processing (DSP) software that allows you to adjust multiple parameters, such as gain, compression, EQ, high-pass filter, and more. An always-enabled limiter can also be utilized to prevent clipping or distortion. In addition, the MoveMic 88+ has five presets—speech, singing, flat, acoustic, and loud—which are fully customizable and can be saved on the companion apps.
Some of the most impressive features of the MoveMic 88+ are the four selectable polar patterns, which include stereo, mono cardioid, mono bidirectional, and raw mid-side. The stereo settings also offer pickup patterns with variable width, from 60 degrees to 135 degrees. These multiple options provide great flexibility with respect to application. The mono cardioid setting is optimal for interviews with single subjects, while the mono bidirectional setting can be used for a two-person interview. If you’re recording musical performances or environmental sounds, the stereo setting is ideal. And users who are positioning the mic facing the center of the sound source can employ the raw mid-side pickup pattern for impactful results.
The MoveMic 88+ provides up to eight hours of battery life, allowing for a full day shoot without having to recharge the microphone. The mic system also features a 3.5mm input for headphone monitoring, and monitoring levels can be adjusted via the MOTIV apps or MoveMic Receiver.
Finally, the MoveMic 88+ mounts to any microphone stand, allowing you to position it anywhere while having hands on control over your camera or mobile device. With an ultracompact form factor and fast, easy to use design and navigation, the MoveMic 88+ wireless system can become an invaluable tool for any type of video content creator.
