Drawmer Announces MQ-1and MQ-2 500-Series Vintage EQ Modules

English audio experts Drawmer have announced two new 500-series modules at this year’s NAMM convention. The MQ-1 is a vintage 7-band equalizer which takes inspiration from the legendary Motown EQ. The MQ-2 is also a 7-band EQ based on the Motown EQ, but with program-dependent one-knob compressor built in as well.

Starting with the MQ-1, this 500-series rack module features 7-band proportional Q parametric EQ with curves akin to the famous ’60s-era Detroit sound. This 100% analog EQ features seven bell curves, each with a variable cut/boost of 10 dB and set to the same beautiful musical frequencies of the original.

Drawmer has included the Crush feature of their 1971 rack unit for pleasing harmonic saturation and classic analog warmth that adds oodles of character to any signal. This means fattened bass, highly present mids, and a delightful high-frequency shimmer. The harder you drive the EQ, the more Crush response you’ll get.

The MQ-1 provides brilliance control at 12.5 kHz, presence at 5 kHz, upper-midrange control at 2 kHz, mid-range at 800 Hz, low mid-range at 320 Hz, bass adjustment at 120 Hz, and sub-bass control at 50 Hz. The unit features a hardwired bypass and is manufactured in the UK.

The MQ-2 takes the same inspiration and features as the MQ-1 but adds in convenient one-knob compression. This effortless compressor adapts its envelope to the characteristics of the signal. This feature also influences the Crush function, with the two compressors working together to deliver unique characteristics not possible on the MQ-1. The MQ-2 features an 8-segment LED gain reduction meter for monitoring your compressor gain reduction, as well as an Order switch for flipping the signal path from compressor to EQ and vice versa.
