This year, DPA Microphones is introducing its new MicroLock technology, an improved locking connector system that will be gradually implemented into the company’s line of microphones, adapters and associated components. As an evolution from the well-established MicroDot connection, the more durable MicroLock features enhanced electrical design and a locking mechanism, adding an extra layer of security and protecting the connection from any accidental disconnection during use.
The easy-to-use locking mechanism on the new MicroLock system not only provides secure and consistent contact pressure with the connector but also touts significantly longer lifespan thanks to the updated materials used in its construction. The connector sports a stronger, solid metal body, while the upgraded electrical design delivers even greater stability and reliability of the signal. And in line with DPA’s reputation for compact craftmanship, the miniature design is ideal in situations where space is limited, or inconspicuousness is required.
Like the MircroDot, this new connector can accommodate different brands of wireless transmitters thanks to the extensive line of high quality DPA adapters that users have come to rely on. Rather than having to buy a new microphone each time you change or upgrade your wireless system, you can keep using your existing MicroLock equipped DPA mics regardless of how you decide to pair them.
Thankfully, for existing owners of DPA microphones with the MicroDot connection, the brand has ensured that the MicroLock is fully backward compatible with MicroDot. This means the MicroLock components can be assembled with MicroDot parts and function as if they were the MircoDot type. At the same time, to keep one’s equipment components clearly identifiable, the color inside the connector has been changed from red in MicroDot to DPA green in MicroLock. It should be noted, however, that while MicroLock is backward compatible with MicroDot, the locking function only works when both connectors are MicroLock.
DPA will first introduce the MicroLock connector with its omnidirectional miniature microphones, followed by its cardioid mic options. In addition, accessories, such as adapters and cables will also be upgraded to feature MircoLock technology.
