Deity Announces Theos Digital UHF Wireless Microphone System Ships in September

We were excited when Deity unveiled the Theos Dual-Channel Digital UHF Wireless Microphone System last April at NAB, and now the company has announced that Theos will be shipping on September 15. Part of Deity’s Sidus ecosystem, this cutting-edge system is packed with features not commonly available to the average user of wireless audio and it is designed to make the audio recording process as seamless and stress-free as possible for filmmakers and content creators. The complete Theos system comes with the two DBTX bodypack transmitter/recorders, two lavaliers, and a D2RX dual-channel receiver.

Wideband UHF Spectrum for Reliable Wireless

The Deity Theos Digital Wireless Microphone System is Deity’s first digital UHF wireless mic system. Instead of the congested 2.4 GHz band, it utilizes a broad UHF spectrum ranging from 550 to 960 MHz (the actual band size and spectrum will depend on which block / regional kit is purchased). This helps ensure that your audio is free from interference and other issues that can occur when working in a crowded frequency range. Theos also features swappable frequency ranges based on your phone’s GPS / Firmware Update, so you can travel the world with one wireless microphone kit. For added reliability, the transmitter delivers up to 100mW of RF transmission power, giving you all the power you need to overcome interference.

DBTX Lightweight Bodypack Transmitter/Recorder

True magic happens within the DBTX bodypack transmitter. Deity has integrated a high-quality recorder capable of recording WAV BWF files and saving them to a micro-SD card (up to 128GB in size). 24-bit and 32-bit float formats are available, so you never have to worry about clipping your recordings. This ensures that you can always shoot even when you’re working in an environment where wireless is not allowed—such as in large sporting events that require clearance beforehand.

Another impressive feature is that the transmitter can be natively synced, wirelessly, from the Deity TC-1 timecode generator. This feature is a boon for filmmakers working with multiple cameras or devices, ensuring perfect synchronization between audio and video files during post, and making the editing process smooth and efficient. For added flexibility, the DBTX can also be synced via its 3.5mm jack with third-party timecode generators.

D2RX Dual-Channel Portable Receiver

The D2RX dual-channel receiver is designed to be versatile and convenient to use. It boasts two outputs, dedicated to A and B transmitters, offering more flexibility than a simple split-stereo TRS setup. The B Port can even double as a headphone jack, making it suitable for wireless monitoring applications on set, among other uses.

Up to 14 Hours of Battery Life

The Theos components run for nearly 7 hours using two AA rechargeable batteries or up to 14 hours when paired with Deity AA batteries. The D2RX and DBTX can also be externally powered via USB-C for extended shoots—great if you're using Theos in a sound bag or on a camera rig where you have Anton Bauer or V-mount batteries.

Durable and Lightweight Construction

Design-wise, the Theos System surprises with its lightweight yet robust construction. Contrary to what might be expected, it is not housed in plastic but rather in a meticulously machined piece of aluminum. The transmitter's weight is minimal—around 100 grams (approximately 3.5 ounces) for the convenience of users.

Remote Control via Sidus Audio App

The transmitter and receiver can be remotely controlled via the Sidus Audio app on your smartphone or iPad from up to 250' away. You can perform frequency scanning, assignment, frequency coordination between multiple receivers, gain staging, and remote triggering of the backup recorder. All adjustments can be made without physically touching the devices, saving time, and ensuring you never miss critical moments on set.

More Cool Features

Full-color LCD screens: Stay informed with a clear view of vital information, including audio levels, battery life, and more, all conveniently displayed on the full-color LCD screen. This feature is especially useful for filmmakers who need to work in various locations and lighting conditions.

SMA antenna ports: Located on the receiver and transmitter, these ports enable you to swap out antennas to fine-tune your frequencies or to connect shark-fin antennas to the receiver for bag use. This feature adds flexibility to your setup and makes it easier to transport Theos.
