Insta360 has officially unveiled the Luna Ultra 8K gimbal camera, with dual Leica Summicron lenses, a triple AI chip, and a detachable 2” OLED touchscreen. The primary lens packs a 1” CMOS image sensor, while the telephoto lens has a 1/1.3" CMOS sensor. The Luna Ultra is also compatible with Insta360’s new Mic Pro wireless system, with E-Ink displays and 32-bit float internal recording.
The Luna Ultra pairs Leica-engineered optics with a wide range of capture modes, including 8K30p Dolby Vision, 4K120p slow motion, and 4K60p PureVideo for low light. The Luna Ultra can shoot in vertical or horizontal orientation, and the telephoto lens facilitates up to 12x zoom and 6x lossless zoom. The triple AI chip should also significantly aid in low-light capture.
The Luna Ultra has built-in Leica color profiles and cinematic filters, as well as 10-bit I-Log recording. Dynamic range sits around 14 stops. The camera’s subject tracking and focus system uses the AI chip, and Insta360 promises enough speed and accuracy to capture fast-moving sports. Additional modes include 4K Live Frame photos and a Beauty Mode for refined skin texture.
One of the most exciting developments in the Luna Ultra is its 2” detachable screen, supporting HD video transmission at up to 65’ and functioning as a remote control and a wireless microphone. Battery life for the Luna sits around four hours when utilizing its 3-axis stabilization and AI tracking. The Standard Bundle comes with a wind guard, 1/4"-20 Handle, USB-C cable, wrist strap, and protective cover.
The Luna Ultra can act as a receiver for Insta360’s new Mic Pro wireless transmitter, also available in kits with a standalone receiver. The coin-shaped mic uses 2.4 GHz bands and features a 1.22” E-Ink display for customizable branding. The Mic Pro has a PU-powered AI noise cancelling chip, auto-gain control, a low-cut filter, multiple pick-up patterns for its 3-mic array, 32GB of internal storage for 32-bit float recording, and approximately 10 hours of battery life.
Luna Ultra accessories available at launch include a Battery Handle, Black Mist Filter, Wide-Angle Lens adapter, and a ND Filter Set. For more information about the Insta360 Luna Ultra and Mic Pro, including features, specs, and highlights, be sure to check out the detailed product pages.
