How to Upgrade to Windows 11

If you are unfamiliar with your system's hardware, your first step is learning more about your computer. You don't necessarily need to know what is under the hood to perform the upgrade, but it is good to know especially if you are unaware of what you have. Windows 11 is only compatible with select processors and you can easily check to see if yours will work. This takes three easy steps:

  1. Right-click on the Windows icon on the lower left side of your screen

  2. Click on System

  3. Look for the Processor line

From here you can take note of what processor you have. It will either be an Intel or an AMD processor. For example, I have an Intel Core i7-6700 processor. I can check the compatibility list and find that it is not compatible with Windows 11. On the other hand, I also have another computer that has an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, which is compatible with Windows 11.

The best way to see if your processor is compatible is by hitting the links and checking the lists for Intel and AMD.

Windows Update

If you are looking for the absolute simplest way to download and install Windows 11, it is through the Windows Update function. Once your system is ready, Windows Update will notify you. All you need to do is follow these steps:

  1. Right-click on the Start menu

  2. Select Settings

  3. Select Update & Security

  4. Click on Windows Update

If you haven't downloaded the latest Windows 10 update, then you will do it at this point. Afterwards, you may be prompted to download the Windows 11 install. After the installation is complete, the system will restart and you will have Windows 11 as long as everything checks out.

That is it! That's all you really need to do and know when it comes to upgrading to Windows 11. If your processor isn't supported, you should look into buying a new desktop or laptop device that can run it. You can easily transfer your important files from an old device to a new one using a flash drive or an external storage drive.

As you see, upgrading to Windows 11 isn't that difficult. Microsoft has aimed to make it as painless as possible while remaining efficient.
