Apple Announces New iPad Air with M3 Chip

Apple has announced a faster and more powerful iPad Air—now featuring an M3 chip and built for Apple Intelligence. Operating nearly twice as fast as the iPad Air with M1 and 3.5x faster than the iPad Air with A14 Bionic, the updated iPad Air facilitates faster multitasking capabilities, enhanced graphics for games, and an overall smoother experience. Available in in 11- and 13-inch models, the new iPad Air gives users the option to pick the size that best suits their needs.

M3 at a Glance

Thanks to its powerful 8-core CPU, the M3 chip offers vast improvements over the M1, including up to 35% faster performance for multithreaded workflows. Delivering up to 40% faster graphical performance over the M1 is the 9-core GPU and Apple's advanced graphics architecture which supports protocols like dynamic caching, hardware-accelerated mesh shading, and even ray tracing. A faster Neural Engine enables users to experience more AI capabilities in iPadOS such as Apple Intelligence, boasting up to 60% faster performance for AI workloads.

Built for Apple Intelligence

Designed for creatives and users looking to expand their utility, the new iPad Air with M3 leverages Apple Intelligence. Providing you with helpful and relevant capabilities, Apple Intelligence enables users to use the Clean Up tool in the Photos app to remove distracting elements in images. Users can also search for just about any photo or video by simply describing what they are looking for. Image Wand in the Notes app makes notes more visually engaging by turning rough sketches into more vivid images by drawing a circle around the sketch with the Apple Pencil.

Users can also explore creative new ways to express themselves visually with Image Playground, Genmoji, and make their writing more dynamic with the ChatGPT-backed Writing Tools app. Enhancements to Siri are also present, making Siri more conversational with the ability to follow along if users stumble over their words. Siri is also equipped with extensive product knowledge about Apple products to help guide you through various functions and features.

To protect user's privacy, Apple Intelligence uses on-device processing, meaning that many of the models that power it run entirely on the device. For requests that require access to larger models, Private Cloud Compute extends the privacy and security of iPad into the cloud to unlock even more intelligence capabilities. When using Private Cloud Compute, data is never stored or shared with Apple and only used to fulfill requests.

All-New Magic Keyboard

An all-new Magic Keyboard for the iPad Air with M3 is also available. Featuring a larger trackpad and new 14-key function row gives users enhanced controls, streamlining productivity in a comfortable and compact manner. The new Magic Keyboard attaches magnetically, while the Smart Connector syncs power and data through the interface without the need for Bluetooth wireless technology. It also has a machined aluminum hinge with a USB-C port for charging.

iPad A16 Update

Apple also upgraded the standard iPad, adding more storage for your applications and upgrading the processor to the A16. This offers a step-up in performance with gains as high as 50% when compared to the iPad with A13.

iPadOS 18

With iPadOS 18, you unlock a variety of features including the newly designed Calculator application that integrates handwriting and problem solving with Math Notes. The Notes app now has Smart Script to translate handwritten text into a more readable format. Audo recording and Transcription applications also have new search features.  Additionally, iPadOS 18 allows you to customize your home screen with new customizable app icons and widgets along with a newly redesigned Control Center.

The new iPad Air with M3 and Magic Keyboard for iPad Air will be available on March 12.
