Building a Hybrid Work Environment with HP POLY Studio R30

Connecting with each other can be difficult, especially in fast-paced business sectors where every second counts. This is where the HP Poly Studio R30 USB Video Bar comes into play. The Studio R30 is a truly unique and exceptionally capable piece of video hardware, one that can easily become the centerpiece of your conference room—thanks in part to its large array of ports and  wireless connectivity features, which allow you to connect all of your necessary peripherals.

Measuring 17.5” wide, 3.4” deep, and 3.2” tall, the video bar fits perfectly on top of your conference room’s monitor. Coming in at 1.8 lb (with the included monitor clamp), the lightweight nature means you don’t have to worry about overbearing weight negatively impacting the display. If you are not fond of attaching it to a display, there is a ¼-20 thread that allows you to mount the video bar to a tripod or other compatible hardware.

In terms of connectivity features, the unit features a single USB-C port that uses the included cable to connect to your system. Two USB-A 2.0 ports are available for additional peripherals like keyboards and mice. It also offers Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi capabilities, giving the Studio R30 some extra utility. A single Kensington lock slot is also found at the bottom, allowing users to secure the Studio R30 to their setup. Altogether, the Studio R30 lays the foundation, giving users a single focal point of connectivity, supporting not just desktop systems, but laptops as well. This gives users the option to use a singular, device dedicated to managing the conference software while opening the door for mobile users to share documents on their laptops.

Offering a 120-degree viewing angle, the wide-angle camera can easily capture an entire conference room in UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution. Not only does the Studio R30 excel in one-on-one calls, it also manages multiple participants within the same room, which is great when you have a mix of in-house employees and remote workers. Thanks to the integrated mic array, zoom capability, and integrated Poly DirectorAI, the image frame stays focused on the speaker, even when  multiple people are in a room. If conversation becomes more immediate between speakers, the Studio R30 automatically widens to capture speakers—a great feature for collaboration.

As for audio capabilities, the Studio R30 contains a three-microphone element beamforming array which managed to capture voices from across the room, about 15’ away. A single speaker built into the left side of the Studio R30 offers crisp audio without affecting the triple-mic array. Whether the room is packed with individuals or just a single person conducting a call with others all over the world, the Studio R30 does a great job maintaining audio balance.
