Tilta Introduces the Redesigned Nucleus Nano II Lens Control System

Get ready to bring powerful lens control to your camera rig with Tilta’s updated Nucleus Nano II wireless FIZ lens controller system. The updated Nucleus Nano II system is made up of a wireless touchscreen hand controller unit and a powerful, compact FIZ Lens Control Motor, providing easy setup and calibration for wireless focus control beginners and seasoned professionals alike. The system can be used to control focus, iris, or zoom wirelessly, as well as configure camera settings and run/stop operation using Bluetooth, USB-C, or Wi-Fi.

Touchscreen Hand Unit

Most of the updates in the redesign are in the hand unit, starting with the bright 1.6" round touchscreen display that allows you to configure calibration, camera settings, focus/iris/zoom settings, and perform firmware updates easily. Its physical control characteristics include a run/stop button that can control a camera via USB-C (or via Wi-Fi with compatible camera models); a zoom rocker that can be assigned to focus, iris, or zoom; a function button to calibrate the motor and set A/B marks; and a DF/TF switch to change the wheel spin characteristic for compatibility with different motors.

The USB-C port can also be used to charge the handwheel unit’s long-life battery, as well as provide firmware updates. On the other side, a built-in custom NATO clamp with electronic contacts allows you to use the handwheel unit with hand unit-specific accessories. The handwheel can be mapped to any motor, such as the Nucleus-M, and provides various motor settings such as which motor type (FIZ), vibration level, calibration settings, custom lens information, motor direction, sensitivity, and more.

When connected to your camera, you can also view and configure a variety of camera-specific settings such as ISO, shutter, f-stop, lens model, white balance, resolution, frame rate, data rate, and more. It is compatible with major brand digital cameras such as the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro via Bluetooth, the Sony FX3 or Canon R6 Mk II via USB-C, and it also works with DJI RS 2 RS 3 Pro gimbal stabilizers.

Nucleus Nano II Motor

In addition to its higher-torque design, the updated motor now powers via USB-C and features two USB-C ports (one I/O and one input only), allowing you to pass power through to multiple motors to control focus, iris, and zoom from a single source. You can power the motor using a simple power bank, a professional battery, or one of Tilta’s many battery plates or power handles.

The motor driver is offset for better alignment with the lens, and it features an 0.8 MOD gear for compatibility with most cinema lenses. The included lens adapter ring provides compatibility with even more lenses, such as DSLR and mirrorless models. Once it pairs quickly with the hand unit via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi using the quick pair button, calibration can be performed manually or by holding down the calibrate button. A clever LED indicator lights up with different LED colors to signal which function is assigned to the motor—Green: iris, Blue: zoom, Purple: focus, and Yellow: unassigned. Mounting on your rig is made easy using the integrated 15mm rod clamp.

The redesigned wireless Nucleus Nano II FIZ lens controller system provides everything you need to get started, including a hand unit, motor, USB-C power cable, lens ring adapter, 15mm rod, 15mm rod clamp, an Allen wrench, and a soft carry case.
