Head to Head: Panasonic GH4 vs. Sony a7S

It's undeniable that shooters looking for a DSLR-style 4K option will be taking a serious look at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 and the Sony a7S. The frustrating question—which one to get? In this video we compare the advantages of both cameras. These include internal 4K recording in the GH4 versus the a7S, which requires an external recorder, and the a7S's to-date unrivaled low-light performance and ability to use just about any full-frame or APS-C lens, when paired with the appropriate adapter.

What the video makes clear is that it really depends on the purpose for which the camera is being used that will make the choice clear. "Run-and-gun" documentary/news shooters may prefer the GH4 because it has less rolling-shutter artifacts and the lenses are smaller. DPs on narrative productions, and the other hand, may find they can't live without the a7S's dynamic range when grading the footage in post. Each is the right camera for someone—watch the video to help you decide which is the right one for you.
