DJI Announces RS 4/RS 4 Pro Gimbals and Focus Pro

DJI has announced its most advanced and innovative gimbals yet: the RS 4 and RS 4 Pro. The new stabilizers debut alongside the Focus Pro, DJI’s first independent lens control system with LiDAR autofocus technology.

RS 4 and RS 4 Pro: Shared Features

Both the RS 4 and RS 4 Pro promise next-generation vertical capture, improved stabilization, and an upgraded accessory ecosystem that aims to empower cinematographers with a more robust toolset for creating gripping stories.

The new gimbals feature low-friction Teflon coatings on all three axes, ensuring DJI’s smoothest balancing experience to date. When switching cameras and lenses, precise balancing can be achieved using the fine-tuning knob on the tilt axis, which offers millimeter-scale adjustments.

DJI’s optimized, 4th-generation stabilization algorithm delivers dramatically improved performance for multiple shooting scenarios, striking the perfect balance between an enhanced user experience, the feel of the camera movement, and stability strength. That stability extends to vertical shooting, allowing users to easily stabilize and capture more dynamic shots.

RS 4 Pro

In addition to its class-leading stabilization, exceptionally smooth balancing, and improved vertical capture, the RS 4 Pro offers several unique, model-specific features, including its powerful payload capacity. Carbon-fiber arms allow the RS 4 Pro to comfortably handle payloads up to 10 lb without feeling encumbered, meaning it can accommodate most popular mirrorless and cine-style camera and lens rigs.

Don’t worry about heavier loads either: The RS 4 Pro features a 20% boost in motor torque across its three axes, ensuring responsiveness, precision, and stabilization even out a maxed-out payload.

The RS 4 Pro also offers an exclusive Car Mount mode, perfect for capturing smooth footage from a moving vehicle. The nifty new mode optimizes the RS 4 Pro’s stabilization algorithm based on your vehicle’s vibrations and wind resistance data, ensuring smooth capture even in the shakiest of conditions.

RS 4

The RS 4 shares the same 6.6-lb payload as its predecessor, the DJI RS 3, but its tilt axis has been extended by 8.5mm, providing more balancing space. The added room gives you more mounting options, further broadening the scope of creative possibilities.

The RS 4 also supports various professional-grade features, modes, and DJI PRO products, including the new Focus Pro. Wirelessly controlling camera shutter and lens zoom via joystick is possible thanks to the RS 4’s Dual-Mode Bluetooth technology. Additionally, you can pair the RS 4 with the Focus Pro motor to control lens focus via dial or adjust the zoom via joystick.

The RS 4 also supports a FPV (first-person view) mode, which makes the gimbal’s three axes follow the direction of the grip movement, a boon for shooting rotational footage or simulating POV.

A dedicated switch allows you to quickly alternate between the RS 4’s various shooting modes.

DJI Focus Pro

With the introduction of the Focus Pro, creators can now achieve the same FIZ (focus/iris/zoom) control over both their gimbal and camera rig. DJI’s first independent AMF lens control system that provides cinematographers with a comprehensive focus solution and feature set. It is also the first LiDAR focus system DJI has ever offered as an independent product, meaning it’s accessible to everyone, not just Ronin users.

The Focus Pro features up to 2.5 hours of system power, intuitive screen functions, automatic calibration, data storage for up to 15 lenses, Bluetooth start/stop recording, and mobile recording functions.

The Focus Pro is available in multiple iterations, including an all-in-one combo, which includes the Focus Pro motor, the LiDAR unit, the grip, and hand unit. A Creator Combo is also available, or you can buy the components separately à la carte.
