CES 2019: Vuze Enters Extended Reality with XR Camera

2Share

Vuze is jumping into the "extended reality" world with its XR 3D VR180 / 2D VR360 Camera. XR is something of a catch-all for the latest VR and AR tech, and this camera seems to be the first to embrace the many different methods of capture by giving users two serious options for creating content. At CES, we got our hands on the camera and were impressed with its size and functionality.

Making the dual VR capture modes possible is that both cameras are on a hinge. Normally it is configured like all 360 cameras are, with a camera pointing each direction, but quickly you can pop out each side for a perfectly aligned 180-degree 3D image. The camera setups will also create high-res 5.7K30 footage at maximum settings, along with 4K60 as an option for smoother motion. Stills can be captured at a great 18MP, as well, and audio is recording using four mics for a surround-sound experience.

A brilliant move is a solid 6-axis gyroscope that measures camera movement for ultra-smooth stabilization. This is essential if you want a virtual reality experience that won't upset the stomachs of your viewers. For remote camera control, a Vuze XR mobile app is available to provide previews, some editing control, and making it easy to upload to social media or live stream footage. More advanced users will want to look for the desktop software where a lot more control and maximum quality can be obtained.

The camera is compatible with microSD memory cards, has a USB Type-C port for transferring data and charging the internal 1200mAh battery. This will let it run for about one hour. Coming soon is an Underwater Case that will open the door for many more shooting situations.
