DJI Osmo Pocket Overview

  • 1Description

The DJI Osmo Pocket Gimbal is a lightweight gimbal stabilizer and 4K camera combination that is compact enough to carry wherever you go. Weighing just over four ounces and measuring only 4.8" high, this all-in-one unit features 3-axis stabilization to smooth out your movements. The Osmo Pocket incorporates a 1/2.3" sensor and a wide f/2.0, 80° angle-of-view lens to record up to 4K60 cinematic video and 12MP still photos on up to a 256GB microSD card.

Use DJI's Mimo app and your iOS or Android smartphone to polish your footage with preset shooting patterns, camera motions, filters, and soundtracks. Connect the Osmo Pocket via the included USB Type-C or Lightning adapters to use your smartphone as a larger viewfinder with the Mimo app. Add the separately available Wireless Module for remote control and transmission. A Pro mode enables you to adjust the camera's ISO and exposure settings for maximum creativity.

Unlike a similarly sized smartphone, the candy bar-sized Osmo Pocket offers intelligent functions like Active Track, FaceTrack, and Motionlapse to create compelling, creative effects. Choose between 180° and 3 x 3 panoramic shots to capture wide landscape vistas. The FPV mode provides a selfie perspective, and NightShot can be used to capture moonlit or low-light scenes.

The Osmo Pocket's passive cooling system quietly dissipates heat, and a rechargeable battery enables the camera to record up to 140 minutes of 1080p video. Accessories like ND filters, a retractable extension stick, a waterproof case, and an accessory mount are available separately to round out your Osmo Pocket experience.

Note: The optional Bluetooth Module is required for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.

    DJI Osmo Pocket Reviews

Osmo Pocket Gimbal is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 92.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Little Camera Super easy to use, startup is quick and literally fits in your pocket. Video screen is small so be prepared to just frame shots and take a closer look in post to see how it really looks ;-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing piece of technology Hi...I owned the original Osmo and used it for many years.  This little pocket guy, well, is really fantastic.  Eliminates many of the downsides of the original like having to use your phone, needing to wait for wifi, and in general the lack of being able to capture video at a moments notice.  This unit has some terrific new features besides the size such as the ability to create a motion time lapse.  Im about to start filming some short videos for my business and Im trusting all of them to the Osmo pocket.  Ill combine that with some footage from my Canon for shallow depth of field but the Pocket will be doing most of the work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love Hate I love the quality of the image this little guy makes, and I love the stabilization.  But it is not ergonomically well thought out...and it needs a lanyard attachment (I solved this with the Go Pro bracket for the Pocket).  I also ended up using it on a GoPole grip so I could control it with two hands - worked very well!  Im still more of a fan of the original Osmo ergonomically, and the 4th axis spring stabilizer really far only one of those being sold in small quantities for the Pocket.  Better battery life for me than Go Pro Hero, but you also cant swap batteries on this.  App connection is wonderful.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Plug&play ready 4 GalaxyS7 I just received mine. Pretty happy with the quality perception/feel of the product. Happy as well with the expedited shipping and delivery by B&H. Im also happy that they beat Amazons pricing therefore I was glad to give someone else my business. Not happy with the fact that its NOT ready to be used with my old Galaxy S7. Thats not openly apparent when buying it. Im not saying it is misleading but there are some of us that arent tech savvy so a simple: this wont work out of the box with some phones because it doesnt have a small USB adapter would be nice. I need my camera in 2 days so you just sent me to the apple store to get qn iPhone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Little Camera Ive only had this for a few days, and I am VERY impressed with both the tiny (but exceedingly useable) size of the device, and the high quality, mechanically stabilized images it produces. To use an over-used cliché, this is a game changer. Its the ultimate video camera for traveling and for vlogging. I travel on average five days a week, and this goes with me everywhere.  My only disappointments so far: some of the software features DJI promoted arent yet available (e.g. story), and most of the accessories werent ready to ship when the camera started shipping. Both will be remedied in a short time, Im sure. Meanwhile theres nothing keeping me from using this on a daily basis.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Seems rushed for Christmas. Tons of footage unusable due to focus pumping and what looks to be chunks of artificial blurring. Must use phone to set pro mode, if you want to take a quick photo, must get out of pro mode. To get into pro mode again, must reattach to phone. Want to change ISO? reattach phone etc. This camera really needs your phone to work properly. Will not remember previous setting, MP4 resets to .MOV for example. Unable to stitch 3x3 pano on their desktop app. Mimo app (currently missing on the app store) will stitch lowres 3x3. Read the fine print, although you see cinelike d on YT review copies, its not available on the camera. Mic jack looks to be firmware locked.  Strap hangs on case and not the camera itself.. why??? Why is the strap hanging on the case? Its completely illogical.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Firmware flaws Although I had some issues registering the product using a 2014 iPhone 6, the two main (serious )problems I have experience3d so far are: 1) The connection with the mobile is sometimes lost and the connector itself is not sturdy. In my last attempt, I pushed too hard and the connector broke = $19 + $15 s/h. 2) The second issue that should be easy to correct via firmware is that with the Pocket alone, you cannot select the PRO setting for photo/pano/timelapse (JPG+RAW); a mobile connected to the Pocket is needed. When the mobile is disconnected and switch to video mode, the PRO photo setting is not available anymore. That defeats one of the main purposes of this device, portability!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hardware great; software not so much This thing is very small and very capable. My early use confirmed that the resulting video is totally useful. Its not up to my 4K real video camera, of course, but it certainly is as good as my iPhone Xs, if not better. Unfortunately, there is a software issue for the iPhone that surprised me. Given that their other iPhone software supports video streaming, I expected that the software for the Pocket would as well. It does not support video streaming of any kind. Their own forum has a page of complaints about this, and DJI seems reluctant to deal with it. If video streaming worked, this would have been a 5-star rating.
